Meet Antonio
My parents emigrated to the U.S. from Mexico, looking for opportunities, so they settled in Antioch. For over 20 years, my dad worked as a dishwasher at Red Lobster and my mom as a Jack In the Box cook. Like many of you, they worked hard so their children could be successful in life regardless of their path.
That’s why my love for Antioch
& our local schools
is personal.
I grew up in Antioch and attended local public schools from kindergarten through Dozier-Libbey Medical High School.
Collectively, my two siblings and I decided to pursue a path toward college and earned degrees from Stanford University, UC Berkeley, and Los Medanos College, respectively. My family has experienced firsthand the transformational power of education, and I want to make that a reality for all of Antioch’s children.
As students of color fell behind,
I championed the school district's first equity initiative to ensure we could better serve our African American, Latino, Asian, and LGBTQ+ students.
When our staff members were being bullied & harassed by senior executives,
I championed holding leadership accountable for being complicit in unsafe work environments.
When bilingual aides, elementary intervention teachers, & librarians were threatened,
I championed $20,000,000 in grant funding to keep them.
As our schools fell into disrepair,
I championed a $195,000,000 bond measure to revitalize them.
